$100k. 6-Figures.
It’s this mythic, magical place. An established benchmark that separates Pros from Hobbyists.
As I was sitting in a government basement back in 2009, working my first desk job after college, I remember thinking, “If I could make $100k a year, I’d be set. Aimee would never have to work again.”
And that’s the thought that launched my next career: Digital Marketing. I jumped into my first site with both feet: TrainBaseball.com. Spent months soaking up every bit of information I could about selling stuff online.
Back when we first got married, Aimee worked nights. So I was up at 5:30 AM. Got to my desk by 6:30, so I could get home by 4:30 to see Aimee before she left for work at 6. Which left me studying online marketing stuff until she home around midnight.
That went on for months…and months…and months. I’m exhausted just thinking about that time in our life.
Over the next 9 months, I learned A TON. But stop me if you’ve heard this before….I was hopelessly confused. Completely stuck. Ready to quit.
Too Many Ideas, Not Enough Focus
I scribbled down too many random ideas. Launched too many half-baked projects. Listened to too many conflicting strategies. My To-Do was overflowing, but I had no idea what to DO.
Which is such an infuriating place to be! It was like being lost in the woods, holding 100 different maps, having no idea which one would get you home…
– Create + design your website.
– Start blogging twice a week.
– Learn SEO to rank in Google.
– Start posting to Facebook, Twitter, + Instagram.
– Create landing pages + give away lead magnets.
– Build an email list.
– Get in front of a camera + Live Stream
– Write e-zine articles (this was 2009 after all)
– Create a product.
– Study copywriting.
– Create sales pages.
– Put together a 90-minute webinar.
I mean, do I need to go on? We all know the rest of the list. The problem isn’t having enough things to do. The problem is knowing what things are going to work! What is going to help us make sales, grow a business, and create the freedom we’re after.
So I ran around, completely without focus, spinning my wheels, making zero dollars for almost a full year. Until I met Paul Reddick.
The Flaw In The Game Plan
Paul ran his own baseball site. But very un-like mine: his site made money. And plenty of it. The first weekend I spent with Paul (he invited me up for a MasterMind with his buddies), I realized that Paul’s To-Do was short. Like painfully short.
Like “why doesn’t that look anything like what I’m doing???” short.
And Paul was the first person to help me see the truth: The game plan is flawed.
If you’re starting out online, trying to grow a brand that can replace your day job, and get to that 6-figure mark, the game plan you are handed is just flat-out wrong. You can follow every blog, tune in to every webinar, download every podcast. But all that happens is you end up confused, with WAY too damn much on your plate.
Paul helped me uncover something that I now call “The 3 Step Profit Plan”. Name needs some work, but just follow me on this one…
The 3 Step Profit Plan
As the owner of SamCart, I get to watch serious sellers every single day. To date, SamCart has created over 1,393 6-Figure Sellers (and that number grows every day). And I can tell you from first hand experience, that every 6-figure (and above) brand does a great job of focusing on these 3 steps…
1: Get More Customers
2: Get Customers To Buy More
3: Get Customers To Buy More Often
I actually got this from a great quote by Jay Abraham, that goes something like this…
“Most people, including me, think that increasing business is a complex giant burden of thousands of possible tactics that one can try but Jay Abraham takes the complex and makes it simple.
Focusing on only three business building categories throughout our business lives doesn’t seem so bad right?
So what are the three ways to grow a business?
- Increase the number of clients, get more new prospects into paying customers
- Increase the average transaction, get each client to buy more at each purchase
- Increase the frequency that the average client buys from you, get each customer to buy from you more often
Just thinking of all your marketing and business activities as falling in one of these three categories will help keep you focused and will quickly give you a boost in revenues and profits.”
How Focus Changes Everything
I got back from Paul’s MasterMind and decided I was throwing out every tasks that did not fall under these 3 Steps. And in the next 90 days, TrainBaseball transformed from a “sell a $27 ebook once a week” hobby into a “$7,859/mo in pure profit” real-life business.
That’s how I made my first $100k online.
I put an asterisk in “*3 Steps To $100k”, because my path to my first $100k was the long way around. But if you want to create a business that fuels your dreams, then do nothing but focus on The 3 Step Profit Plan. Anything else is a waste of time.
Now listen, I understand that each of these steps could include a bunch of different sub-tasks. But we’ll talk more about that later. For today, I want you to write down the 3 Step Profit Plan. Get it on your whiteboard, and let it sink in.
And in a day or two, I want to share how I took these 3 Steps, and cut down my overstuffed To-Do List into 6 Mission-Critical Tasks that every 6-figure business owner has to perform every single day.
See What Happened Next
Now it’s time to get more strategic. I want to show you a game plan that actually works…take away the mystery about how you can take your idea…and turn it into something real.
Let me tell you from experience, that $100k mark…it’s really not that hard when you have the right game plan. That’s why I’ve just finished up a new post called “The 6 Steps to 6 Figures”.
You can check that out by clicking here: https://www.brianmoran.com/6-steps-to-six-figures/
P.S. If you know someone who is overwhelmed and ready to quit, forward them this 3 Step Profit Plan.
When I was at my bottom, the hope of being able to simplify my business and SUCCEED…gave me the second wind I needed. And that’s exactly the same message I want to share with you right now. No links here, nothing to sell.
Just a passion for helping business owners cut the bullshit, and get to the heart of what really works.

Excellent reminder of what to focus on. With marketing and technology advances, it is easy to get distracted on a daily basis. Looking forward to the manifesto!

Just watched your Awesome Webinar “This Simple Website makes me $1729 per day” unfortunately too short but I learned a lot, I wish I still had good credit and I would have purchased your program, even with poor to good credit I did try but PayPal denied me access to their credit card. You did everything Other Teachers have told me to do, STACK THE VALUE, and OVER-DELIVER, so Good Job. I am guessing Scot is your brother good to see some families still have a business together. So now that it’s just me asking with nobody looking over my shoulder do you have anything for Struggling Poor Marketers or a payment plan for some of your products or even one product so I can start making some money. Once I am actually making money I have no problem giving you a chunk of the money being made. So I am guessing you get a lot of people asking for freebies and I am not asking for that, I have no problem setting up a payment plan with you, or becoming a minor JV partner with you giving you a third of what I make. I am hoping you will consider it. (after the webinar I looked you up on Google, thanks for the story of the other Brian Moran who wrote a book.) I will continue to work my way through your blog and anywhere else so I can continue to learn more.
It was a great webinar, I just wish my credit was already fixed, it is getting better even employed a legal aide to fix my credit, and its improving. As I really wanted to buy it, Bummer! Thanks for Over Delivering and Stacking the Value, making me want to buy and I did just like a drug addict and their drug, I really wanted it badly so was really disappointed when the results came back as denied, GOOD JOB!
Sincerely,
Jonathan Giffard
